Fine Arts

Fine Arts plays a prominent role within Byron Center Public Schools. Students take music and art classes as part of our curriculum, and are also encouraged to participate in a variety of extra-curricular activities to further develop their creative talents. In support of the arts within our schools and community, the district opened the Van Singel Fine Arts Center in 1998, one of the first of its kind in the nation.

Elementary Level (K-4) 

At the elementary level, fine arts is offered in specials such as music and art. Third and fourth grade students also have the option to participate in their school's choir. Choir students perform at school assemblies, school concerts, various sporting events throughout the community, and more. 

Nickels Intermediate (5-6)

In fifth grade, students are offered general music and art. In sixth grade, students take art and have the choice between choir, band, and orchestra. 

West Middle School (7-8) 

Students have the option to take art, band, choir, or orchestra. Students can also participate in various after-school fine arts activities, such as theatre. WMS theatre students put on a production of Aladdin Jr. in spring 2023.

Byron Center High School (9-12) 

BCHS divides the arts into three different areas: Applied Arts, Performing Arts, and Visual Arts. Students are required to take 1 credit (2 semester courses) of one of these three areas in order to graduate.
